Gryffin is the performance name of Dan Griffith, a dance and electronic producer from San Francisco, United States. He is associated with dance-pop, electronic, electropop and pop, and releases music through Gryffin and Darkroom Records.

Background

Griffin is born in 1987. He grows up as a classically trained pianist and later adds guitar at an early age. Before focusing on production, he plays in bands to develop his instrumental skills, then studies music production at the University of Southern California. His work is centred on melody-led house music that combines indie and dance elements.

Remixes and early recognition

He gains attention through remixes that include Tove Lo’s “Talking Body”, Maroon 5’s “Animals” and Years & Years’ “Desire”. His releases also reach number one on Hype Machine repeatedly, and his online streams total 100 million.

Live performance and original releases

Unlike many artists in his field, Gryffin focuses on live performance as a key part of his work. He presents a live set at SnowGlobe Music Festival using guitar, keyboard, synths and drum pads in a continuous dance-music format. He later plays sold-out shows at The Roxy in Los Angeles and Bowery Ballroom in New York as part of his first live tour.

After the tour, he releases his first original track, “Heading Home”, featuring Josef Salvat. The track reaches number one on Spotify’s Global Viral 50 and US Viral chart and collects a million plays in a week.
