Gruff Rhys is a Welsh singer-songwriter from Haverfordwest and Cardiff, born in 1970. He is best known as the lead singer of Super Furry Animals and is also associated with Ffa Coffi Pawb and Neon Neon. His work is linked to indie folk and indie pop, and he is credited with Manett Publishing.

Solo career

Rhys begins his solo career with Yr Atal Genhedlaeth, his first solo album. It appears before Super Furry Animals’ Love Kraft. He follows it with Candylion, a record that includes songs in English, Welsh and Spanish and features collaborations with Lisa Jen of 9Bach and Sean O’Hagan of The High Llamas.

Further albums

He releases Hotel Shampoo as his third solo album and later American Interior as his fourth solo album. Hotel Shampoo is described as an album of piano ballads that develops into something broader in style.
