Grouplove

Grouplove is an American alternative rock band from Los Angeles, active since 2009. The group’s line-up includes Christian Zucconi, Hannah Hooper, Andrew Wessen, Sean Gadd, Ryan Rabin, Daniel Gleason and Benjamin Homola, with Zucconi, Hooper, Wessen, Gadd and Rabin forming the core of the band’s early years. Their sound is associated with alternative rock, indie rock, indie pop, alternative dance, electropop and pop.

Formation and early history

The band forms in Los Angeles in 2009 after Hannah Hooper and Christian Zucconi meet in New York and later reconnect at an art residency in Greece, on the island of Crete. There they meet the musicians who become their future bandmates. Sean Gadd, originally from London, joins after bonding with the others, while Andrew Wessen and Ryan Rabin also take part in the residency and become part of the group. After the residency ends, the musicians split between New York, London and Los Angeles before regrouping in Los Angeles to record together.

Hooper and Zucconi later move to Los Angeles, while Gadd also relocates there, and the band continues from that base. Rabin produces the group’s early albums and is identified as the son of Trevor Rabin, the former Yes guitarist and film composer.
