Groove Theory

Groove Theory is a neo soul and R&B group from the United States, active from 1995 to 2001. The duo’s best-known line-up consists of singer Amel Larrieux and songwriter, actor and producer Bryce “Luvah” Wilson.

The group is known for its self-titled debut album and its 1995 singles “Tell Me”, “Keep Tryin’” and “Baby Luv”. Their early material establishes them as a 1990s R&B act with a smooth, soul-influenced sound.

Larrieux leaves the group in 1999 to pursue a solo career and is replaced by Mekada Davis. This change brings a more contemporary R&B direction for the second album, The Answer. The album does not receive a commercial release, although the single “4 Sure” achieves moderate success, including a remix with Mya and Jagged Edge.

After the group stops recording, Wilson appears in the film Beauty Shop alongside Queen Latifah, and he and Davis continue writing together for other artists, including Beyoncé and Amerie. Before Groove Theory, Wilson begins his career in the old-school hip-hop group Mantronix under the name Bryce Luv.
