Green Diesel
Green Diesel are a folk rock group from Faversham, Kent. They emerge in 2009 and specialise in combining new versions of traditional tunes with original material. Their music draws on English folk lore and legend as well as the folk rock sound of the 1970s.
Style and approach
The band work with a mix of traditional instruments and electric guitar, and their arrangements move between folk, rock and other influences. Their versions of older material include changes such as a reggae feel on a sea shanty and jazz funk touches in a jig. The group describe their sound as loud, energetic and centred on live movement.

The sextet consists of Greg Ireland on guitar, mandolin, bouzouki and vocals; Ben Holliday on bass guitar; Matthew Fraser on accordion; Ellen Care on violin, viola and vocals; Matt Dear on lead guitar and mandolin; and Colin Ireland on drums.
Recordings

Influences
Green Diesel are linked to the tradition of English folk rock and are compared with groups such as Fairport Convention and The Albion Band in their focus on reworking traditional music for contemporary listeners.
