Gramps Morgan is a reggae singer, keyboard player and songwriter from Brooklyn, New York, best known as a member of Morgan Heritage. He grows up in Springfield, Massachusetts, where he plays football with his parents and more than 20 siblings, and he is one of Denroy Morgan’s 17 sons. He joins the family band at the age of nine.

Morgan Heritage is a family reggae group that he performs with for nearly three decades, touring widely and playing to large audiences around the world. He describes the group’s approach as varied and non-predictable, with an emphasis on keeping the music interesting.

Solo work

Morgan begins a solo career while still part of the family act, with a focus on conscious roots reggae, lovers rock and adult contemporary music. His first solo single, “Wash the Tears”, is written, composed and produced by him on his Dada Son Entertainment label, which is part of the Morgan family’s Gedion Music Group. The single reaches number 8 on Italy’s Top 20 Singles Chart.

His solo recordings include collaborations with Buju Banton, Ziggy Marley, India Arie, Kenny Rogers and Musiq Soulchild. A planned double-disc release, Two Sides of My Heart, is intended to show different sides of his style and personality.

Other work

As CEO of Dada Son Entertainment, he runs a full entertainment company with plans that include multimedia ventures such as independent films and internet projects. He also manages the label’s roster of artists. He is presented as working toward completing a family recording studio.
