Goldie Reed is a country and indie singer-songwriter from Brooklands Radio who performs with a band made up of Paul Rippengal on guitar, Rob Harvey on bass, Olly Stevenson on keys and Ben Killick on drums. The group presents itself as a close-knit unit, with that friendship carrying through into its live performances.

Music and style

Reed’s music is lyrical and rooted in a vocal style influenced by Eva Cassidy, Alison Krauss, Joni Mitchell and Bjork. Her voice sits over slide guitar, keys and a rhythm section that supports the songs with a steady, detailed arrangement.

Rippengal brings guitar playing shaped by Ry Cooder, John Martyn, Tom Waits, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Marc Ribot, combining slide work with blues and avant-garde elements. Stevenson adds a jazz-influenced piano style informed by Oscar Peterson and Herbie Hancock. The rhythm section combines Harvey’s bass playing, influenced by Victor Wooten and Chuck Rainey, with Killick’s drumming, which draws on John Bonham and Steve Gadd.

Performances and recordings

Goldie Reed has already played the Troubadour club in London. The act is promoting its music while preparing a debut album. Rippengal also has a debut album in production.
