Golden Glow

Golden Glow is a Manchester new wave project led by singer and songwriter Pierre Hall. Hall, who has a British father from Trinidad and Tobago and a Mauritian mother, first establishes himself in Manchester as a party promoter before fronting the Brit-pop band Lead Balloons. In late 2009, he begins writing songs as a solo artist and names the project Golden Glow as a tribute to the band Felt.

Style and early development

The project develops from a DIY approach associated with Manchester’s punk-era bands. Hall writes and records the early songs on a four-track with minimal equipment and without a fixed plan for the project’s direction. The material is shaped by a difficult period in his life and is written as a personal outlet rather than a polished studio venture.

Key releases and recognition

After Hall befriends and opens for The Drums, the track “Adore Me” appears on a compilation issued on their label, Holiday Records. By late 2010, the songs that become the debut album Tender Is The Night are complete, and a series of lo-fi music videos starts attracting attention online. The project is also described as “Spectral-Mancunian Post-Punks.”
