Glowie is the stage name of Sara Pétursdóttir, a singer from Reykjavík, Iceland, born in 1997. She is associated with pop, electropop and spoken word, and she also identifies as a female vocalist. She moves from Iceland to London in 2018.

Background

Glowie has ADHD and dyslexia. In 2014, she wins the Singing Contest of Icelandic Junior Colleges. At that point, 11 record labels offer her contracts, but she asks them to wait for one or two years so she can develop further as an artist before signing.

Singles and chart success

Her debut single, “No More”, appears through StopWaitGo in 2015 and becomes a major hit in Iceland, where it tops the national chart for three consecutive weeks. Later in 2015, she releases “Party”, which spends 10 weeks on the Icelandic singles chart and reaches number 4.

In 2016, she releases “One Day”, which also spends 6 weeks on the Icelandic singles chart and peaks at number 4. She then releases “No Lie”, which remains on the chart for 8 weeks and reaches number 1 for 2 weeks. A music video for “No Lie” follows later that month.

Plans for recorded work

In interviews in 2019, Glowie says an album is important to her and that she wants the songs to feel connected rather than like unrelated tracks. She describes the kind of record she is aiming for as a mix of pop and R&B with darker themes and a darker tone.
