Geese

Geese is an American rock band formed in Brooklyn, New York in 2016. The group’s lineup consists of Cameron Winter on vocals, keyboards and guitar, Emily Green on guitar, Dominic DiGesu on bass and Max Bassin on drums. For live shows, Sam Revaz joins on keyboards. The band first comes together while its members are students at Brooklyn Friends School and Little Red School House in New York City, and they rehearse and record early material in the basement of Bassin’s home in Fort Greene.

Early releases and name

Geese begins by playing a version of “Mind Mischief” by Tame Impala. The band name comes from Emily Green’s nickname, “Goose”. In 2018, the group independently releases a debut EP, later followed by the album A Beautiful Memory. A second EP, Bottomless Pink Lagoon, appears in 2019. Those early releases are later removed from streaming platforms.

Albums and label work

The band initially expects to split after graduating in 2020, as several members have accepted places at colleges including Oberlin College and Berklee College of Music. Instead, self-produced demos from 2020 attract interest from multiple labels, and the group signs to Partisan Records. Its label debut, Projector, is recorded in Bassin’s basement between late 2019 and early 2020 and mixed by Dan Carey. The album is preceded by the single “Disco”.

Geese’s third studio album, 3D Country, is produced by James Ford and is preceded by the singles “Cowboy Nudes”, “3D Country”, “Mysterious Love” and “I See Myself”. An accompanying EP, 4D Country, draws on the same recording sessions and adds extra material. In December 2023, guitarist Foster Hudson leaves the band, after which Geese continues as a quartet.

The band’s fourth album, Getting Killed, is issued in 2025 and is followed by the singles “Taxes”, “Trinidad” and “100 Horses”. Cameron Winter also releases a solo album, Heavy Metal, in December 2024, which draws attention to both his solo work and Geese.

Later activity

Geese continues to tour and perform through 2025 and 2026, including television performances of “Taxes” on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and “Au Pays du Cocaine” and “Trinidad” on Saturday Night Live. The band is associated with post-punk, indie rock, art punk, crank wave and dance-punk. Its releases appear on the Filthy Little Angels label.
