Gai Barone

Gai Barone is the recording name of Gaetano Barone, an Italian DJ and producer who works in trance, progressive house and related electronic styles. He also uses the aliases Gaetano Barone and Gai. He begins as a pianist, taking up the instrument at the age of four, before moving into club music after hearing house in 1989 and becoming especially drawn to acid house.

Early DJ and production work

By 1990, he is DJing across Italy with sets that range from progressive music to techno. In 1995, he starts making his own tracks with F-tracker, described as an early and basic piece of software. From then on, music becomes his main focus.

Moves through Europe

In 1998, he moves to Germany and later to England, where he learns more about techno culture. His production work continues to develop, moving through styles that include chill-out and hard trance.

Trance and progressive releases

In 2008, he turns his attention more fully to prog and trance. His debut in this phase is a remix of Whitenite’s “Memento” for Navigation Records. He then releases his first EP, “Solegirasoli”, on Ultimate House Records, followed by “Moving” on Mesmerized Records, which reaches number 13 in the Audiojelly Prog/Tribal chart. Another release, “Appetite” on Ask4 Records, is described as a prog trance track and marks an important step in his career. His discography also includes “Pemba” and “Eastern Cakes” as paired tracks on the relevant EPs.
