GAEREA

GAEREA is a Portuguese black metal group from Porto, active since 2016. The band starts as a bedroom project and develops into a full group, with members Ruben Freitas, Guilherme Henriques, Pedro Soares, Diogo Mota and Sonja Schuringa. The members perform masked, which supports the band’s conceptual and anonymous presentation.

Style and development

GAEREA is associated with black metal and a wider post-black metal approach. Their sound combines raw intensity with melodic leads, post-rock textures and cinematic atmospheres. Early releases are rooted more strongly in traditional black metal, while later work moves towards a broader post-black and alt-metal style.

Themes and identity

The band’s lyrics and overall concept focus on narcissism, self-destruction, misanthropy, mental numbness and emotional catharsis. Their presentation and music both challenge standard black metal archetypes, with an emphasis on atmosphere and emotional weight.

Career

GAEREA rises quickly in the underground and tours extensively. They sign to Century Media Records and gain attention for their live performances and for pushing beyond a narrow black metal framework.
