Fufanu

Fufanu is an alternative group from Reykjavík, Iceland, active since 2011 and based around Kaktus Einarsson, Guðlaugur Einarsson and Erling Bang. The band releases music on One Little Indian Records.

Formation and background

Before Fufanu, Kaktus Einarsson and Guðlaugur Einarsson work together as the techno duo Captain Fufanu, which forms in 2008. Fufanu emerges after an album recorded under that name is lost when the studio where it is stored is burgled. The band retains an electronic element in its sound, using synth pads and bass alongside drums and two guitars.

Sound and style

The group combines post-punk and electronic techno influences. Its music is described through contrasts of large, bleak sound and tight rhythmic movement, with both guitar-based and electronic textures present in the arrangement.

Members

Kaktus Einarsson handles vocals, Guðlaugur Einarsson plays guitar, synth and programming, and Erling Bang plays drums.

Releases

By 2018, Fufanu has released two albums on One Little Indian Records.
