Fuck Buttons are a two-piece experimental group from Bristol, United Kingdom, active from 2004 to 2015. The group consists of Andrew Hung and Benjamin John Power, who is also known as Blanck Mass. They are based in London during their active years and work across drone, electronic, experimental electronic, noise, post-industrial and progressive electronic styles.

Career

The group forms in late 2004 and signs to ATP Recordings. Its first release is the Bright Tomorrow b/w “Little Bloody Shoulder” 7-inch single, which appears in 2007. Fuck Buttons release their debut album, Street Horrrsing, in 2008 and it receives wide acclaim. Their second album, Tarot Sport, follows in 2009, and their third album, Slow Focus, is released in 2013.

Style and presentation

The band is known for a sound built from dense layers of electronic texture and noise. Andrew Hung and Benjamin John Power also shape the group’s visual identity themselves: Hung makes the videos, while Power designs the record sleeves.

Collaborations and later activity

Fuck Buttons record “Immortals” with electronic musician Jean-Michel Jarre for his album Electronica 1: The Time Machine. After an extensive world tour, the group goes on hiatus while Hung and Power pursue solo work.
