Fret and Fiddle is a jazz trio founded in Birmingham in 2000. The group takes inspiration from the small string bands of the 1930s and 1940s, especially the Quintette du Hot Club de France, with its association with Stéphane Grappelli and Django Reinhardt.

The trio’s repertoire includes songs associated with Grappelli across his long career, ranging from gypsy jazz to pieces by Cole Porter, Rodgers & Hart, George Gershwin and Hoagy Carmichael, as well as Grappelli’s own compositions. Fret and Fiddle are described as award winning and appear as an established live act, performing in concert halls and at corporate events.

They share stages with members of E.L.O, Eric Clapton, Gong, Fapy Lafertin, Tchavolo Schmitt and The Rosenbergs. Their appearances include events for Alternative Holidays – Sicily, the Nightingale Club in Birmingham, Barclays Bank, the I.C.C, Gardeners World for the B.B.C, Moda U.K, Birmingham’s Symphony Hall and the N.E.C. Festival appearances include the Exeter Summer Music Festival, the Birmingham International Jazz Festival and the gypsy jazz festival L’Esprit Manouche.
