Frankie & The Heartstrings

Frankie & The Heartstrings are an indie rock group from Sunderland. The band is active from 2008 and is associated with Pete Gofton. It is described as a five-piece band from the north-east of the United Kingdom.

Releases

The band’s first single is Hunger/Fragile, which appears at the beginning of 2010. Their debut album, Hunger, is released in the UK in February 2011. A later single, I Still Follow You, is issued as a free download through the band’s website in October 2012. Their second album, The Days Run Away, is released in May 2013.

Other activity

In 2013, the band opens its own record shop, Pop Recs Ltd, in Sunderland. The project is also presented as a performance and exhibition space, with a focus on local and national artists and musicians and on supporting community life in the north east.

Song background

The title and lyrics of Hunger are linked to the Norwegian writer Knut Hamsun’s 1890 novel Hunger, which follows a young writer’s decline into near madness through famine, poverty and homelessness.
