Forlorn is a black metal group from Stavanger, Norway, active from 1992 to 2004. Their music is associated with black metal, melodic black metal and viking metal.

History

The band develops from material linked to 122-Stab Wounds, where Alvarin and C. Worhn form the core of the project. At that stage, Forlorn is still in development rather than a fully established band. While preparing their debut EP, the group signs to Head Not Found for two releases. S. Aske then joins on vocals and completes the first EP.

Work begins early on The Crystal Palace, the group’s first full-length album. It becomes the final release for Head Not Found and the last to feature S. Aske on vocals. In 1999, Forlorn signs a two-album deal with Napalm Records. Their Napalm debut, Opus III - Ad Caelestis Res, marks a change in direction, with the band’s music becoming more intense while keeping its atmospheric character and continuing to draw on epic themes.

After Opus III, C. Worhn leaves the band. Alvarin then changes his artist name to Hennex and rebuilds the line-up with new members.

Line-up changes

Hennex recruits drummer S. Winter, then Dolgar, who has left Gehenna after internal conflicts. Vulpes joins on bass, having originally been a guitarist. The band also brings in Iego on keyboards, but this does not last, and B. Lonafell later replaces him. For live shows, Kine Hult plays keyboards. The group later describes itself as a four-piece.

Later release

Hybernation is described as the band’s later audio chapter and is presented as a significant release in their catalogue.
