Flor de Loto

Flor de Loto is a Peruvian progressive rock group from Lima, active since 1998. The band begins in the late 1990s with guitarist Alonso Herrera and bassist Alejandro Jarrín, and becomes part of Peru’s experimental and progressive rock movement.

Style and influences

The group’s sound combines progressive rock with progressive folk, rock, and folk rock, with elements of hard rock, jazz, psychedelia, and chamber music. Its folk side includes Andean influences, alongside references to pre-Hispanic tradition. The band also works with contrasts between softer passages and heavier rock sections.

Albums

Flor de Loto presents its first album, Flor de Loto, in January 2005. The record receives a strong response both in Peru and abroad. The second album, Madre Tierra, shows a more mature and robust version of the band’s prog-folk approach. Its third album, Mundos Bizarros, explores sharper contrasts between the band’s gentle and driving sides and moves toward darker moods.

Line-up and musicians

Alonso Herrera’s guitar work is a central part of the band’s sound, while Alejandro Jarrín contributes inventive bass lines and rhythmic support. Drummer Jorge Puccini provides a strong and precise foundation, and woodwind parts also play an important role in the band’s arrangements.
