Fionn Regan

Fionn Regan is an Irish singer-songwriter from Bray, Ireland. He performs in contemporary folk, folk, folk rock and indie folk, and has been active since 2002.

Career

Regan releases his music as a solo artist and first receives wider attention with the Hotel Room EP in 2004. His debut album, The End of History, follows in 2006 and is described as critically acclaimed. He later releases The Shadow of an Empire in 2010, which leans more towards rock, and 100 Acres of Sycamore in 2011. The latter is noted for a return to the themes and style of his debut, with some comparisons made to Nick Drake, particularly in the use of strings.

Live work and recording approach

As a live performer, Regan supports artists including American Music Club, John Prine, Turin Brakes, Joanna Newsom and Willy Mason. He is also known for a do-it-yourself recording method, using analogue equipment and recording in houses, a shed and a barn in order to capture a live sound.

Style and reputation

His writing is described as strong in imagery, and Olly Knights of Turin Brakes praises his ability to create weighty and striking lyrics while retaining a sweet charm.
