Fetty Wap is an American rapper, singer and songwriter from Paterson, United States. His real name is Willie Maxwell II. He works in hip hop, contemporary R&B, pop rap and trap.

Maxwell begins taking an interest in music in 2013. He starts out as a rapper and later adds singing to his music, saying he wants to do something different. He is associated with Remy Boyz.

His stage name combines two parts: “Fetty”, a slang term for money and a reference to the fact that he is known for making money, and “Wap”, which he adds in tribute to Gucci Mane’s alias, GuWop.

As a child, Maxwell develops glaucoma in both eyes. Doctors are unable to save his left eye, and he later receives an ocular prosthesis.
