Femi Kuti

Femi Kuti is a Nigerian musician from London, Nigeria, born in 1962, and the oldest son of Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti. He grows up in Lagos, the former Nigerian capital, and becomes known for work that combines afrobeat with jazz and jùjú.

He is closely associated with the bands Egypt 80 and The Positive Force. Across his career, he maintains a strong commitment to social and political causes, following a path similar to his father’s, while holding different religious views.

In 2001, he collaborates with several US artists, including Common, Mos Def and Jaguar Wright, on the album Fight to Win. The record is widely regarded as an important neo-afrobeat release of the early 21st century. He is also described as an award-winning musician.
