Faceplant

Faceplant is a Toronto group active from 2020, described as working across death/grind, hardcore and crossover. The act is grouped here with drone, experimental, nu metal, punk and hardcore tags.

The name first appears in connection with a Houston-based band that originally performs as Sucker Punch before changing to FacePlant. That earlier version begins playing in 1995 as a six-piece, builds a local following in Houston’s Southside, and issues a CD titled Get Some containing ten songs. It is also described by local press as a hip hop, harmonising, phunk-n-roll act, with music built around vocal lines, rhythmic shifts and percussion-heavy arrangements.

That Houston group also wins a contest identifying Houston’s top alternative act, which leads to airplay and promotion on KTBZ 107.5, The Buzz. Its live performances are presented as a major part of its identity, and the band is said to draw on a wide range of influences.
