Eyehategod

Eyehategod, also known as EHG, is a sludge metal band from New Orleans, United States, formed in 1988 and active since then. The group is associated with sludge metal and metal, and is often named alongside Melvins and Crowbar as one of the early acts to shape the genre.

Sound and influences

The band’s music centres on dark, heavily sludged riffs and bleak lyrics. Its sound draws on down-tuned, blues-based guitar work, sustained feedback and harsh vocals. Eyehategod names Melvins, Black Sabbath, Black Flag, Saint Vitus, Carnivore, Swans and Flipper among its key influences.

Side project

While Jimmy Bower is occupied playing drums in Down, the other members of Eyehategod form Outlaw Order, also shortened to OO%. That project releases the limited 7" EP Legalize Crime in 2003 and later issues a full-length album, Dragging Down the Enforcer, in 2008.
