Every Mother's Nightmare
Every Mother's Nightmare is a hard rock group from Nashville, United States. Formed in 1987, the band combines hard rock with elements of metal, southern rock and country. The original line-up is built around vocalist Rick Ruhl and guitarist Steve Malone, with Mark McMurtry on bass and Jim Phipps on drums later joining full-time to complete the core group.
Career
The band signs to Arista after writing several songs and releases its debut album, which brings a degree of minor success. Two singles from that record, “Love Can Make You Blind” and “Walls Come Down”, help establish the group’s profile, and “Love Can Make You Blind” reaches number 22 on the Billboard singles chart. That result helps the band keep its Arista deal.
The follow-up release performs less strongly and the band is dropped by the label. McMurtry and Malone leave soon after, while the remaining members continue with local shows until Phipps also departs. McMurtry later appears with his own band, The Forty-Fives, while Ruhl continues to use the Every Mother’s Nightmare name for occasional shows.
Later activity
Ruhl later revives the group with Jeff Caughron on guitar, Travis Hall on guitar, Troy Flemming on bass and Kris Beavers on drums, and the band releases Smokin' Delta Voodoo. Every Mother’s Nightmare continues to record and tour, with Phipps returning to the drum kit.
