Eureka Machines

Eureka Machines is a Leeds-based British rock, power pop and punk group that forms in 2007 and remains active. The band is associated with Wrath Records and is built around Chris Catalyst.

Line-up

The group’s line-up includes Chris Catalyst on vocals, guitars, keyboards and trombone, Davros on guitars, vocals and keyboards, Pete Human on bass guitar and vocals, and Wayne Insane on drums and percussion. The verified membership note identifies Chris Catalyst as the core member.

Early activity and live work

The band’s first performance is with ¡Forward, Russia!, at the request of guitarist Whiskas. It then tours with Ginger of The Wildhearts for a couple of weeks, and also supports The Wildhearts at their 15th Anniversary Gig at Shepherd’s Bush Empire in September 2008. Its debut gig, touring work and early support slots help establish the group’s profile in the UK rock circuit.

Recordings and releases

Eureka Machines’ debut album, Do or Die, is released by Wrath Records in 2008 and receives favourable press. The same year the band issues a Christmas single, a download-only version of “Silent Night”. In 2009 it releases the single “Everyone Loves You”, then “Being Good Is Okay, But Being Better’s Better” as a free download with a new B-side.

Festival appearances and radio play

The band opens Rock Day on the BBC Introducing Stage at the Reading and Leeds festivals in 2008. It also plays festival dates at Guilfest, Moor Music Festival, Wickerman Festival and Trashstock in 2009. Its music receives airplay on BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 2, BBC 6Music, XFM and Radio Rock in Italy.

Related acts

Before leaving the band in February 2009, original bassist Steve Morricone plays in The Scaramanga Six. He is replaced by Pete Pseudonym, formerly of The Gushers. Eureka Machines also tours with Electric Six in December 2009, playing sold-out academy shows in the UK and its first Dublin dates.
