Esmé is a rock band from Atlanta, Georgia, associated with post-hardcore and electronic elements. The line-up changes several times after the band forms in 2004, and the project goes through a number of releases, tours and online previews in the mid-2000s.

Formation and early line-up

Esmé forms in 2004 with Eric Wilkes on vocals, Johnathan White on guitar, David Hart on bass and Matt Bankston on drums. Soon after, Scotty joins on bass, with Hart moving to guitar. The band later includes Johnathan White on guitar and electronics, Eric Wilkes on vocals and Toby Weston on drums.

Releases and recording

In early 2005, Esmé releases its first EP, For The Ones We Lost. In early 2006, the band announces Wings For The Wounded. A demo acoustic version of “Parallels” appears on the band’s Myspace page in April 2006, and the full EP follows in June 2006. Later in 2006, Philip Burns takes over on bass.

In 2008, the band previews electronic work from a new album as Sampler Demo '08. The band also makes Wings For The Wounded and “Failure Said The Critic” available as free downloads until April 2008. In May 2008, the group posts its EP Don’t Wake Up, along with artwork and additional tracks. The track “Hold Me Down” is associated with Esmé.

Touring and activity

Esmé gains attention through touring and local shows in Atlanta. In 2007, the band enters the Ernie Ball Battle of the Bands for a chance to play Taste of Chaos 2007 at the Duluth, Georgia date and wins the contest. Around the same period, it releases “Failure Said The Critic” and later makes “The Case (Rough Mix)” available for download. Donny Evans leaves in 2007 and joins Settings, after which the remaining members continue as a trio for a period before work on new material resumes with Toby Weston on drums.
