Eskimo Callboy

Eskimo Callboy are a German electronicore band formed in Castrop-Rauxel in 2010. The group later takes the name Electric Callboy in 2022, but earlier releases appear under the original name. Their sound combines metalcore, post-hardcore and electronic elements, with descriptions also including trancecore, melodic metalcore, comedy rock, dubstep and electro. Their lyrics often focus on partying and nightlife and are sometimes written in a satirical style.

Early releases and touring

The band’s first EP, Eskimo Callboy, is self-released in 2010, distributed through EMP, and later reissued by Redfield Records. Their debut album, Bury Me in Vegas, follows in 2012 on Redfield Records. In their early years they tour as support for Bakkushan, Callejon, Ohrbooten, We Butter the Bread with Butter and Neaera, and appear at festivals including Traffic Jam Open Air and Mair1 Festival. Later in 2012 they tour Japan on the Geki Rock Tour, then play in China and Russia, and also support Callejon in Germany and Austria. During the final show of that tour at Live Music Hall in Cologne on 10 November 2012, falling ceiling pieces injure audience members and the concert stops.

Line-up changes and later albums

Drummer Michael Maletzki leaves in November 2012 and David Friedrich joins. The band tours the United States for the first time in April 2013 with Kottonmouth Kings and Deuce, and performs at Wacken Open Air in August 2013 before returning to Japan for another Geki Rock Tour appearance. They receive the Up and Coming Award at the German Metal Hammer Awards in Berlin in September 2013. Their second album, We Are the Mess, is recorded at Kohlekeller Studios with Kristian Kohlmannslehner and released in 2014 through Redfield Records and Warner Music Japan. It reaches number 8 in Germany and number 64 in Austria. They promote it with German shows supported by Annisokay and a European tour with Iwrestledabearonce, Her Bright Skies and To the Rats and Wolves.

The band’s later studio albums include Crystals (2015), The Scene (2017), Rehab (2019), Tekkno (2022) and Tanzneid (2026). Rehab includes the single “Hurricane”, and after its release the band tours Europe on the Rehab European Tour.

Name change and recent activity

Vocalist Sebastian Biesler leaves in February 2020. Kevin Ratajczak later says the band has found a replacement singer, and Nico Sallach, formerly of To the Rats and Wolves, joins in June 2020. Soon after, the band releases “Hypa Hypa”, whose video becomes widely viewed and marks a more comedic presentation. They follow it with “Hate/Love” and the EP MMXX. In 2021 they release “We Got the Moves”, which becomes more viewed than “Hypa Hypa”, and then “Pump It”. They apply to represent Germany at Eurovision Song Contest 2022 with “Pump It” but are not selected.

In March 2022 the band changes its name from Eskimo Callboy to Electric Callboy, saying the earlier term is outdated or offensive in reference to Inuit and Yupik peoples. Earlier albums are updated with the new name. In April 2022 they release “Spaceman” featuring Finch and announce Tekkno, which later reaches number 1 in Germany, their highest chart position. The band later issues “Ratatata” with Babymetal in 2024; WWE uses it as the theme song for Bash in Berlin. In 2025 they release “Elevator Operator”, “Revery” and “Tanzneid”, and announce the Tanzneid World Tour.

Personnel and side projects

The band members also occasionally perform DJ sets under the name Electric Bassboy. During an Australia tour, Sum 41 drummer Frank Zummo temporarily replaces David Friedrich because of illness. On 29 April 2025 Friedrich announces his departure after thirteen years, and Zummo returns as drummer.

Style and influences

The band cites Asking Alexandria and Attack Attack! as influences. Their work is associated with electronicore, metalcore, melodic metalcore, post-hardcore and experimental electronic styles, with an emphasis on mixable, high-energy performance and theatrical presentation.
