Erode
Erode is a name used by several different bands and solo projects, including an electronic project by Alexander Dietz, a melodic street punk band from Como in Italy, a Danish grindcore group, a hardcore band from Tacoma in Washington, a metal band from north central Florida, and a metallic hardcore band from Baltimore. The act most fully described here is Alexander Dietz’s electronic project.
Alexander Dietz’s electronic project
Alexander Dietz, known as the guitarist in the German metal band Heaven Shall Burn, uses the name Erode for an IDM, industrial and ambient project. Under this name he releases his debut electronic album Horizon on Tympanik Audio. Around the same period, Heaven Shall Burn reaches the German music charts with Invictus, and Dietz also forms the studio company Chemical Burn. His electronic work draws on influences including Beefcake, Access To Arasaka and Gridlock, and Horizon combines heavy ambient textures with complex beat programming and memorable melodies.
Melodic street punk from Como
Another Erode is a melodic street punk band from Como, Italy. It records the singles Orgoglio Proletario and Al Volga non si arriva before releasing its first CD, Tempo che non ritorna. After playing several shows, the band splits up. Bass player and vocalist Cesare later plays in Oltrecortina. The group reforms in 2004 for a reissue of the record and a series of shows around Italy, then returns to hiatus.
Danish grindcore band
A further Erode is a Danish grindcore band with sludge, doom and thrash influences. It plays with bands including Asshole Parade, Fuck the Facts and Dead Infection.
Tacoma hardcore band
There is also a hardcore band from Tacoma, Washington, signed to Wolfpack Records. It includes members of Cowardice and Vessels and combines traditional hardcore with metallic riffs.
Florida metal band
Erode is also the name of a metal band from north central Florida, formed in 1998 by Dave Cozine on vocals and guitar. The band plays across Florida from 2001, changes lineup and sound in 2005, and releases a four-track debut EP in 2007, recorded at Helton Studio in Ocala, Florida. In 2008 Rick Cotshott joins on bass and vocals, and Jeff Johns on drums, with the band’s sound becoming heavier and more intense.
Baltimore metallic hardcore band
A separate Erode operates as a metallic hardcore band from Baltimore, Maryland.
