Engine-EarZ Experiment

Engine-EarZ Experiment is a UK electronic collective active since 2009, centred on multi-instrumentalist, scorer, DJ and producer Prashant Mistry. The project grows out of the dubstep scene and works across dubstep, drum’n’bass, electronica and rock, alongside indigenous musics from around the world.

Background and style

Prashant Mistry grows up in Britain with Asian roots and draws on a wide range of influences, including The Prodigy, Rage Against The Machine, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Talvin Singh. The project sets out to bridge genre and ideological divisions through fusion-based production.

Releases and radio support

The group’s debut limited-edition release is an instrumental double A-side on vinyl and download, pairing “Kaliyuga” with “Introspector”. Its remixes include work on artists from Sean Paul to Basement Jaxx. The collective also receives airplay across BBC radio, with support from presenters including Zane Lowe, Huw Stephens, Ras Kwame, Mary-Anne Hobbs, Nerm & D-Code, Tom Robinson, Friction and Nihal. A second BBC Maida Vale session also takes place with Mista Jam for 1Xtra.

Live activity

Engine-EarZ Experiment builds a reputation both as a DJ act and as a live group. It performs alongside Caspa, Rusko, Shy FX, Skream and Benga, and plays headline slots at the BBC Introducing Stage at Glastonbury 2009 and at the London Mela.
