Emmi

Emmi is a name used by more than one singer-songwriter. One is Emmi Kangasjärvi, a Finnish artist who sings in English. She is from Vilppula, Finland, and gains attention with the single Breakable. That track appears in February 2001, followed by the single Crashing Down and the debut album Solitary Motions in May 2001. The album includes the songs Green Car and Solitary Motions, which also become widely known. She receives a nomination for Best Nordic Act at the MTV Europe Music Awards in 2001. Her second album, No Nothing, appears in two versions: one for the Finnish market in October 2002 and another for Finland and international release in early 2003. The later edition changes the running order and adds Into The World and World Is Crazy, while the earlier version includes Toss Me Down. A single titled Eileen follows in 2005, and her third album, Can Full of Joy, appears later that year.

Another artist using the name Emmi is Emily Joy Green, a British-Australian singer and songwriter born in Torquay, Devon, England. She grows up as the middle child in a family with an older brother and a younger sister. Her father is a pilot, and she spends early childhood in several places including Papua New Guinea and Alice Springs. After moving schools nine times, she settles in Perth, Australia. She leaves home at 16 to study dance full-time in Sydney, and later begins her music career after signing to a music publisher in Australia. She writes songs for Neil Davidge of Massive Attack and for Little Nikki, and names classical music, jazz and Shirley Temple films among her influences.
