Emil Prize is the performance name used by Bulgarian DJ and promoter Emil Borisov, who begins his career in 1999 at Lemon club in Sofia, performing under the name DJ Boro. His early sets focus on deep funky and Latin house, jump-up, and related club styles, and his sound later develops towards electro house, tech house, progressive house and tribal house.

Career

He becomes resident DJ at Brilliantine and Inferno, two of Sofia’s busiest clubs, and later works regularly at other venues including Jazzy, Lifehouse, Yalta, Tifani, Sinners, and club PR. Sofia. He also plays at major Bulgarian clubs such as Cutty Sark, Yalta, Lifehouse, Pulse and Sugar. By this point he has worked with many Bulgarian DJs and also shares line-ups with international DJs including Seb Fontaine, Sergio Fernandez, Simon & Shaker, Paco Maroto and Cevin Fisher.

In 2004, his style takes on an electro influence inspired by artists such as Orbital, Aphex Twin and FSOL, and he continues to present a mix associated with deep, funky, techy, minimal and electro sounds. He organises events including “Summer Inspirations” and “Electro Soul”, and also teams up with Groovemasta to stage events at club NO.

Adultempo

After establishing himself professionally, he founds the Adultempo booking agency and the label Adultempo Specialists with Groovemasta, Alexander Scott and Giorgio B. Adultempo becomes a notable name on the Bulgarian house scene, and he continues to work as a manager for Adultempo and the Adultempo Specialists label.

Broadcast and alias

His mixes are heard on Radio Nova 101.7 FM and Alpha Radio, and are also available via his MySpace account. In 2007, he changes his artist name from DJ Boro to Emil Prize, and his profile expands beyond Bulgaria, with interest from countries across Eastern Europe.
