Electric Eel Shock

Electric Eel Shock, also known as EES, are a Japanese rock group from Tokyo. They form as a power trio made up of Aki Morimoto on guitar and vocals, Kazuto Maekawa on bass, and Tomoharu “Gian” Ito on drums. Their music draws on classic rock, punk, metal, garage rock, j-rock, rock and roll, and hard rock.

History

The group forms in Tokyo in 1997 and begins touring internationally soon afterwards. They first tour the United States in 1999 and reach Europe in early 2003, then continue touring worldwide. In 2010 they launch a PledgeMusic campaign to mark a decade of global touring, aiming to fund a soundtrack album and their first live album and DVD.

Independent funding

Electric Eel Shock are early users of fan funding. In 2008 they raise $50,000 through SellaBand to record and release Sugoi Indeed. They also fund the release of Transworld Ultra Rock by offering guest-list access for life to 100 fans, who become known as the Samurai 100.
