Electric Callboy

Electric Callboy is a German electronicore and metalcore group from Castrop-Rauxel. The band forms in 2010 and is originally known as Eskimo Callboy before changing to its current name in 2022. Its line-up includes Michael Malitzki, Sebastian “Sushi” Biesler, Daniel Haniß, Daniel Klossek, Pascal Schillo, Kevin Ratajczak, David-Karl Friedrich, Nico Sallach and Frank Zummo. The group is associated with the label Edition Kim All.

Style and themes

The band’s music combines electronic styles with metalcore, post-hardcore and experimental elements, and is also described as electronicore and trancecore. Their earlier work has a post-hardcore influence, while later releases gain attention for humorous songs, music videos and live performances. Their lyrics often focus on partying and nightlife and are sometimes satirical. The band also cites Asking Alexandria and Attack Attack! as influences. Members occasionally perform DJ sets under the name Electric Bassboy.

Releases and career

Electric Callboy releases its self-titled debut EP in 2010, first self-released and distributed through EMP before a later reissue on Redfield Records. The debut album Bury Me in Vegas follows in 2012, and the second album We Are the Mess is recorded at Kohlekeller Studios with producer Kristian Kohlmannslehner and issued through Redfield Records and Warner Music Japan. That album reaches number 8 in Germany and number 64 in Austria. The band’s later studio albums include Crystals, The Scene, Rehab, Tekkno and Tanzneid.

Touring, festivals and recognition

In its early years the group tours as support for Bakkushan, Callejon, Ohrbooten, We Butter the Bread with Butter and Neaera, and appears at Traffic Jam Open Air and Mair1 Festival. It tours Japan on the Geki Rock Tour, later also performing in China and Russia, and opens for Callejon in Germany and Austria. The band plays the United States for the first time in 2013 and appears at Wacken Open Air that same year. It receives the Up and Coming Award at the German Metal Hammer Awards in Berlin in 2013.

Line-up changes and later activity

Drummer Michael Maletzki leaves in 2012 and is replaced by David Friedrich. Vocalist Sebastian Biesler leaves in 2020, and Nico Sallach joins soon after from To the Rats and Wolves. The band releases the single “Hypa Hypa”, followed by “Hate/Love” and the EP MMXX. “We Got the Moves” and “Pump It” follow in 2021, and “Pump It” is submitted for Germany’s Eurovision Song Contest selection but is not chosen for the final line-up. In 2021 the group also announces that some older songs are removed from streaming platforms because of lyrics considered problematic.

In 2022 the band changes its name from Eskimo Callboy to Electric Callboy, with earlier albums updated under the new name. The single “Spaceman” features Finch and precedes Tekkno, which reaches number 1 in Germany. In 2024 the group releases “Ratatata” with Babymetal, used by WWE as the theme for the Bash in Berlin event. During an Australia tour, Frank Zummo temporarily replaces David Friedrich on drums. Friedrich later leaves the band in 2025, after which Zummo returns on drums. The band also releases “Elevator Operator”, “Revery” and “Tanzneid”, and announces the Tanzneid World Tour.
