El-P

El-P is the performing name of Jaime Meline, an underground hip-hop producer and rapper from New York City. He is also known by the alias El-Producto. He begins his career as a member of Company Flow alongside DJ Mr. Len and Bigg Jus, where he develops his production style. The group gains critical attention and later wider recognition with Funcrusher Plus in 1997.

Label work and production

After leaving Rawkus with DJ Mr. Len in 2000, he founds Definitive Jux. The label becomes closely associated with his work as a producer and rapper. Among the many records he helps produce, Cannibal Ox's The Cold Vein is described as his most influential and successful production. He also contributes production and guest vocals to releases by DJ Krush, Aesop Rock, Murs, Cage, Mr. Lif, Prefuse 73, Del the Funky Homosapien, Mike Ladd, The High and Mighty, Aceyalone and Alec Empire, as well as to the first Handsome Boy Modeling School album.

Solo albums

His debut solo album, Fantastic Damage, appears in 2002 and receives critical acclaim. I'll Sleep When You're Dead follows in 2007 and features a wide range of collaborators, including The Mars Volta, Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails and Cat Power. In 2012 he releases Cancer 4 Cure on Fat Possum Records; the album is met with strong critical response.

Collaborations and later projects

El-P works on Rage Against the Machine frontman Zach de la Rocha's solo material and appears on tracks such as Vordul Mega's contribution to his rebuttal to Sole's "Dear Elpee", titled "Linda Tripp". In 2013 he forms the rap duo Run the Jewels with Michael Render, known as Killer Mike. He also has the duo projects Choice and You+Me listed among his associated acts.
