Egypt

Egypt is a Fargo-based group active from 2003 to 2018. It operates as a three-piece with Aaron Esterby, Chad Heille and Neal Stein, and is described as a North Dakota doom, psychedelic, stoner and desert rock band.

Background

The band forms in Fargo in 2003. It develops a sound rooted in desert rock and psychedelic rock, with tags also placing it within stoner rock, stoner metal and doom metal. The group is associated with a hard and heavy psychedelic stoner doom style, and its music is compared with acts such as Sleep, Sir Lord Baltimore and Deep Purple.

Recording and releases

In 2004, the band records a self-titled demo in its rehearsal space. That recording later receives a remaster and an official vinyl issue on Lyderhorn Records in 2008. The band also records Midnight Sun at Purple Studios in Norwich, and this appears in 2004 on Blues Matters Records.

Activity and profile

Egypt performs in the UK and abroad, including regular gigs in Spain. The band remains part of the hard rock and heavy psychedelic tradition, with a catalogue centred on its early demo material and later studio recordings.
