Eduardo Niebla
Eduardo Niebla is a Spanish guitarist and composer from Tangier, born in 1955 to Andalusian parents. He lives in Britain from 1978 and becomes an established figure on the British music scene, while working internationally across Europe, the Middle East and South Africa.
Style and background
Niebla performs flamenco and gypsy jazz, bringing in Arabic, Indian, Latin and classical influences. His work is described through his flamenco guitar style and his focus on fusion and acoustic music. He is known for an emotive, technically fluent approach and for composition as well as performance.
Recordings and collaborators
He records extensively and releases 23 albums of his own compositions. These feature musicians including Carles Benavent on bass, Salvador Niebla on drums, Paban Das Baul on voice and percussion, Adel Salameh on oud, Wajahat Khan on sarod, Kala Ramnath on violin and Purbayan Chatterjee on sitar. He also collaborates with Deepak Ram on Searching for Satyam, which wins best instrumental album at the 2000 South African Music Awards.
Performances and collaborations
Niebla’s concert appearances include the Olympic Games in Greece, the Tbilisi International Jazz Festival, Glastonbury, the Brecon International Jazz Festivals and the San Isidro Fiesta in Madrid, as well as numerous festivals across Europe and the Baltic States. He has toured extensively in Eastern and Western Europe, the Middle East and South Africa. He also works with Craig David, George Michael and Belinda Carlisle, and collaborates with Ben Watkins of Juno Reactor.

His playing receives strong critical attention, with reviews highlighting his virtuosity, his fusion style and the passionate quality of his music. He is also described as having a distinctive melodic and melancholic quality in performance.
