East 17

East 17 are a British pop group from Walthamstow, United Kingdom. They form in 1991 and remain active from 1992 onwards. The group’s best-known lineup includes Tony Mortimer, Brian Harvey, John Hendy and Terry Coldwell, and the current performing line-up also includes Robbie Craig alongside Coldwell, with Blair Dreelan and Joe Livermore appearing as touring members.

East 17 build a chart career around pop songs with hip hop elements. Their singles include “House of Love” and “Let It Rain”, which reflect that blend. They achieve 18 top-20 singles and four top-10 albums in the UK.

The group become one of the most prominent British boy bands of the early to mid-1990s. Their public image is strongly associated with tabloid coverage and a “bad boy” reputation, often contrasted with the cleaner image of Take That. Their biggest hit is “Stay Another Day”, which reaches number one in the UK at Christmas in 1994.

East 17 sell more than 18 million albums worldwide. In the UK, the British Phonographic Industry certifies sales of 1.8 million albums and 2.4 million singles.
