Dynamite MC

Dynamite MC, also known as Dynamite and real name Dominic Smith, is a UK rapper and drum and bass vocalist born in Germany and active in the British jungle and drum and bass scene. He begins MCing in the early 1990s on the pirate radio station Crush FM, which broadcasts in south west England.

Roni Size / Reprazent

He meets Roni Size in 1994 and starts MCing for the Full Cycle crew. When the Bristol collective forms the live group Roni Size / Reprazent, he shares vocal duties with singer Onallee. The group's debut album, New Forms, wins the Mercury Music Prize in 1997. His role becomes more prominent on the second Reprazent album, In the Mode (2000), which has a strong hip-hop influence.

Solo work and collaborations

After his work with Reprazent, Dynamite MC collaborates with The Nextmen, Skitz, Scratch Perverts, Andy C and DJ Zinc. He releases the solo album The World of Dynamite in 2004. A mix CD, Big Man Talk, appears on Strong Records in 2006 and includes samples from artists such as Enya and Kanye West. A third album, Styles Galore, is planned for 2006.

Media and radio work

His tracks Bounce and After Party feature in the video game Need for Speed Carbon, and Bounce also appears on the soundtrack of Madden NFL 07. He also presents a two-hour Smooth Grooves show on Kiss 100 FM each Monday night, and hosts the Fresh 40 R&B and dance chart on some UK commercial radio stations on Sunday afternoons.
