Dufresne

Dufresne are an Italian post-hardcore and metalcore group formed in January 2004. The band develops material from earlier musical experience into a style that combines hardcore, metal and rock, with electronic elements and lyrics in both Italian and English.

Early recordings and sound

The group makes its first recording in July 2004 at Red House Recording Studio in Senigallia. The session is produced in artistic coproduction with David Lenci, who is also associated with work by One Dimensional Man, Three Second Kiss, Blonde Redhead and Steve Albini. The resulting material consists of twelve tracks with Italian lyrics.

The band’s songs are described as bringing together hardcore, metal and rock, and their live performances are presented as an important part of how the music takes shape.

Line-up and live activity

Dufresne are a quintet. They perform with other bands including From Autumn to Ashes, Belvedere, Since by Man, The Bled and Hell Is for Heroes.

After their first recording period, they return to the studio the following year and work with Californian producer Darian Rundall, known for production work with Pennywise, Yellowcard and Suicidal Tendencies. This later session yields six new English-language tracks with a more emotionally direct character.

Releases and label work

The band’s profile grows further through management and label interest. Their name appears on posters for Linea77’s Available for Propaganda and on Snowbox, a snowboard DVD that includes the video for “Un lungo sacrificio”.

In March 2006, Dufresne sign with V2 Records. They then promote the album Atlantic, a release containing eleven tracks, six in Italian and five in English.

International shows

Dufresne also play their first live dates outside Italy in Germany, Holland and Switzerland, extending their activity beyond their home scene while continuing to work in a bilingual format.
