DUBAIS

DUBAIS is a Germany-based project by Nadia that develops from an earlier formation called the Adrian Piper Cover Band. In that initial phase, the work centres on “pop covers” of text excerpts from Adrian Piper’s video installation Cornered. The project later becomes DUBAIS during an art residency, when the first song, STEP BACK, is written and recorded on a cellphone inside a bathroom, using a video feedback loop.

The music moves across styles, ranging from absurd synth covers to bedroom pop songs about dating the devil and murdering him. A strong DIY approach connects the work, alongside video art presented through installations, performances, visual albums and experimental pop operas.
