D.R.S.

D.R.S., also known as MC D.R.S. and Del Rok Ski, is a Manchester-based MC, vocalist, and producer. He begins as a breakdancer before moving into MCing at raves in Manchester and Liverpool, and becomes a resident at Club Xtreme. That residency leads to a long-running association with LTJ Bukem and the Good Looking Records circle.

He is mainly known for his work with Strategy and Konny Kon in Broke ’n’ English, and for collaborations with drum and bass artists including LTJ Bukem and Calibre. He is noted for his ability to rap over the fast, intricate rhythms of drum and bass, and for a delivery described as soulful and direct.

Solo work

Unlike many MCs who mainly appear as live hosts, D.R.S. also has a substantial solo discography. His debut album, I Don’t Usually Like MCs But..., and the follow-up Mid Mic Crisis are both released on Soul:r, the label associated with Marcus Intalex.

Style and standing

His work emerges in the 1990s, and he is recognised as one of the more influential and poetic figures in drum and bass. His writing is known for raw, honest lyricism and for staying audible and precise at around 170 BPM.
