DRALMS

DRALMS is a Vancouver rock group led by Christopher Smith. The project features long-time collaborators Shaunn Thomas Watt, who also plays with Siskiyou, Will Kendrick of Failing, and Peter Carruthers, also of Siskiyou.

Sound and style

The group moves away from the minimal, subdued approach of Smith’s earlier solo material and uses a denser, heavier sound. Smith’s cloud-soft vocals remain a central element, set against cyclical dub rhythms, spacey post-rock arrangements, and glitched electronic textures. The music also draws on industrial heaviness, with tracks such as “Divisions Of Labour” and “Crushed Pleats” combining electronic detail and layered guitar-driven structures.

Production and collaborators

Producer and electronic artist Andy Dixon, known for Secret Mommy and Caving, adds to the group’s sonic weight. Smith had previously used Dixon for a remix of Earning Keep’s “Pillars and Pyre.” The additional clicks, echo, and ambience are layered in after the songs are recorded by John Raham at Vancouver’s Afterlife Studios.
