Dr S Gachet is a UK DJ and producer associated with drum and bass, jungle, liquid funk and breaks. He begins deejaying through London reggae sound systems in the mid-1980s, then moves into acid house and club culture in the late 1980s.
DJ career
In 1990, he steps in to play at Bentleys in Bognor Regis, a first set in front of a large crowd that helps launch his DJ career. Between 1990 and 1994, he holds residencies and plays regular sets at venues and events including Camden Palace, Lazerdome, The Rocket, Sterns, The Edge, Paradise Club, Universe, Helter Skelter, Dreamscape, Pure X, Dance Paradise and Living Dream.
From 1995, he becomes a permanent resident at Paradise Club in London and Ministry of Sound, alongside Randall, Mickey Finn, Kenny Ken and Darren Jay. In the same year he also becomes resident at World Dance. He later plays internationally in Belgium, Canada, Italy, France, Germany, Ireland, Ibiza, Japan, Russia, Switzerland, Tasmania and Tenerife, and tours extensively in the United States and Australia.
In the late 1990s, he adds more UK dates, including the first Logical Progression nights at Turnmills.
Radio and production
Dr S Gachet also works in radio. He guest-hosts Radio 1's One in the Jungle shows in 1996 and 1997, during a period when jungle is moving into the mainstream. He also appears on several London stations and later works on Mr C's Gaia Live internet radio station.
He also produces music and sets up two record labels. Audio Maze focuses on drum and bass, while Johnny Biscuit covers house and garage. Audio Maze releases tracks including Remember The Roller and Forbidden Agenda. Phantasy and Shodan give their support to Remember The Roller, which becomes a dubplate favourite for Hype and Andy C. The label is later placed on hold, while he plans to return to the studio and issue material by Beau and Ash-A-Tack.
