Doyle & The Fourfathers
Doyle & The Fourfathers are an alternative pop band from Southampton, England, in the United Kingdom. The group forms in 2009 and has William Doyle as a member.
Early activity
The band begins rehearsing on 7 September 2009 and plays its first gig at Talking Heads in Southampton on 12 November 2009. It gets its first national radio play on BBC 6 Music with Marc Riley on 8 April 2010, followed by its first live radio session for the same programme on 20 April 2010.
Releases and touring
The group self-releases a debut seven-track EP in May 2010 on CD. Its debut single, The Governor of Giving Up, appears on Star Rover Records in October 2010 on CD and 7-inch. The debut album, Man Made, is released on Star Rover Records in February 2011 on CD and LP. In April 2011, the band supports The Undertones on a national tour.
Style and reception
The band is associated with indie, New Pop and rock, and is described as alternative pop. Its sound is linked to the Smiths, the Walker Brothers and Pulp, with references to aching 1960s pop, playful artiness, strong songwriting, a fluid rhythm section and innovative lead guitar.
Later development
In June 2012, the band announces its breakup.
