Dorian Electra is an American singer, songwriter and performance artist from Houston, Texas, born in 1992. Their work centres on theatrical pop that combines hyperpop, electropop and experimental electronic production with concept-driven themes around gender, identity and cultural archetypes.

Career

Electra first draws wider attention in 2010 with I'm in Love with Friedrich Hayek, a viral video built around a tongue-in-cheek tribute to the Austrian economist. They follow it with Roll with the Flow and We Got it 4 Cheap in 2011; the latter places second in the Lloyd V. Hackley Endowment's Supply and Demand Video Contest. In 2012, Electra interns at the production company Emergent Order and releases FA$T CA$H, continuing a satirical pop style shaped by economics. Later that year, Party Milk marks a move towards more surreal, visually symbolic work.

Between 2014 and 2017, Electra builds an online presence through conceptual and educational videos on philosophy, gender and sexuality. Works from this period include What Mary Didn't Know and a series of collaborations with Refinery29: Ode to the Clitoris, The History of Vibrators, 2000 Years of Drag and Control.

Recording career

In 2017, Electra releases the single Jackpot, which addresses gender fluidity, and appears on Charli XCX's Femmebot from the mixtape Pop 2. Their debut studio album, Flamboyant (2019), establishes a style that combines baroque pop imagery with internet culture. The second album, My Agenda (2020), develops these ideas with heavier production and themes centred on masculinity in online spaces.

Fanfare follows as the third studio album in 2023. It is preceded by the singles Freak Mode, Sodom & Gomorrah, anon, Puppet and Idolize. In 2023, Electra also collaborates with Tove Lo on i like u (Dorian Electra Remix).

In 2024, Electra releases We Invented Love with Frost Children and altgrandma. That same year, Sega Bodega releases Teenage Dirtbag featuring Dorian Electra; the track is originally recorded in 2020.

In 2026, Electra begins a new era with the singles Fake Denim and Shutting Up, the first releases from a fourth studio album. In parallel, they launch a covers project with versions of Mr. Tambourine Man and Feel Good Inc.
