Dog Eat Dog

Dog Eat Dog is a US hardcore punk, rap metal and rapcore group from Bergen County, formed in 1990. The band starts when Dave Neabore and Sean Kilkenny leave Mucky Pup and form a new project, later joined by John Connor on vocals and Dan Nastasi on second guitar. The lineup also goes through several drummers before Brandon Finley joins and remains the drummer.

Early releases and breakthrough

After signing to Roadrunner Records, the band releases its first EP, Warrant, in 1993. The title is a joke based on the band Warrant and their album Dog Eat Dog. The EP helps the group tour the east coast of the United States and play overseas for the first time, including support slots for Bad Brains in the UK and 7 Seconds and Big Drill Car in Europe.

The band’s wider breakthrough comes with the album All Boro Kings in 1994. It sells more than 500,000 copies and includes the single No Fronts, along with tracks such as Who’s the King?, Pull My Finger and If These Are the Good Times. The record is produced by Jam Master Jay and leads to an MTV Europe video music award in 1995 for breakthrough artist, ahead of Alanis Morissette, Portishead and Weezer.

Later albums and collaborations

In 1996 Dog Eat Dog records its second album, Play Games. The band works with The RZA of the Wu-Tang Clan and Ronnie James Dio of Black Sabbath on the record, which includes Rocky, Isms and Step Right In. The group continues touring extensively and shares bills with acts including Rage Against the Machine, No Doubt and Sepultura, as well as Ozzy Osbourne, KISS and Metallica.

In 1999 the band records its third album, Amped, which features Expect The Unexpected, Get Up and Whateverman. On this release, Dog Eat Dog expands its sound with reggae and funk elements alongside hip hop and punk. After parting with Roadrunner Records, the band continues to tour.

Recent activity

Dog Eat Dog signs a new record deal in 2005 and completes its fourth album, Walk With Me, released on Wanted Records. The band continues to perform in Europe and Asia and has played in 38 countries.
