Do Me Bad Things

Do Me Bad Things are a UK blues, rock, soul and metal group from Croydon, London. They form in 2003 and split in 2006.

Formation and line-up

The group begins on Valentine’s Day 2003, when Alex Lewis, Tom Shotton and Ad Mallett decide to start a rock trio for fun. The line-up expands as the project develops and eventually includes nine members: Rich Alhurst, Chantal Brown, Alex Lewis, Clare MacDonald-Haig, Ad Mallett, Adam Mallett, Nicolai Prowse, Tom Shotton, Kimberley Whalley and Mark Woods.

Nicolai Prowse has previously been in bands with Tom Shotton and Rich Alhurst, and Alex Lewis has also played with them before. Chantal Brown joins after Tom works with her in a bookshop, and Mark, Kimberley and Clare complete the group.

Career

The band spends time rehearsing and playing local gigs before being noticed by Must Destroy Records, which signs them to Atlantic. Their first Must Destroy release appears in June 2004. Their song “The Song Rides” receives airplay on Zane Lowe’s BBC Radio 1 show and leads to a session with XFM’s John Kennedy.

In 2004, the band plays summer shows supporting other acts and appears at the Carling Weekend and Download Festival. Later that year they release their second Must Destroy single, “Time For Deliverance”, and gain wider attention through regular video appearances and television spots for Nicolai Prowse and Chantal Brown. In November and December 2004 they tour UK arenas supporting The Darkness on the Permission To Land Winter Tour.

During 2005 they record and release their debut album Yes!. They also release “Move in Stereo (Liv Ullman on Drums)” as their third single. The band creates internal side ensembles for live use, including a Misfits tribute group called Ghouls Aloud, which appears at a Halloween show and on the Must Destroy Christmas Tour.

End of the band

In 2005, vocalists Kimberley Whalley and Clare MacDonald-Haig leave the group. Do Me Bad Things split in January 2006 and state that they no longer record or perform live together.
