DJ Q is a British DJ and producer whose work centres on bassline and UK garage, with a strong association to niche house and deep house. He is from Huddersfield and is born in 1985. He also appears as part of TQD.

Broadcasting and DJ work

DJ Q presents a UK garage mix show on 1Xtra and joins the station as a presenter in August 2004. He develops an interest in DJing by buying records that are not yet available on CD, then expands his collection, buys decks and starts playing in his bedroom before moving on to parties and clubs. He also studies for a BTEC National Diploma in Music Technology, which supports his production work.

Releases and chart success

He releases music with MC Bonez, including the single “You Wot!”, which stays in the UK charts for two weeks and peaks at number 50. The track also becomes a notable bassline hit when the style reaches the mainstream in 2007. He releases other singles with MC Bonez as well.

Style and influences

His music is described as influenced by Carl Craig as well as jazz, funk and soul. He releases material on labels including Filter and Glasgow Underground from the mid-1990s onward.
