DJ Hazard is a UK drum and bass DJ and producer, Scott Molloy, whose work sits mainly within drum and bass and jump up. He grows up in the United Kingdom and is known for a style shaped by jungle and rave culture.

Early years and start in music

Hazard's early listening includes reggae, hip-hop and soul. He becomes interested in rave music from the beginning, but is drawn in more fully when those influences begin to appear in rave records. After attending a small number of raves in the Midlands, he decides to focus on DJing.

After leaving school, he works in a local record shop called Basement Beats. The job gives him the money to buy his first turntables and begin building a collection of promotional records. Soon afterwards, he gets slots on pirate station Kool FM in the Midlands, which leads to his first bookings.

Production and early releases

Hazard then turns to production as well as DJing. He buys an Atari S.T. and a portable Yamaha sampler and starts making tracks despite having no previous experience of playing a musical instrument. Within six months, he has four tracks he is satisfied with and begins promoting them on dubplate.

His first record deal includes the tracks "Year 2000" and "Jayden" on Back 2 Basic's Promo Series. The release receives support from DJ figures including Shy FX, Nicky Blackmarket and Mickey Finn, and becomes the series' biggest-selling 12-inch.

He goes on to release several more 12-inches on different labels, and works closely with Formation Records in 2002.

Association with DJ Hype and label work

After a phone call with DJ Hype, Hazard signs exclusively to Hype's labels: True Playaz, Ganja, Frontline and Jekyll & Hyde. Exclusive label deals are unusual in drum and bass, and this increases his profile in the scene.

His first release for Hype is the four-track No More Games EP on True Playaz, followed by Ready For This on Ganja Records. He receives a Best Newcomer award at an industry awards event.

Later releases and key tracks

Hazard appears on the labels' compilation albums, including the Dubplate Killaz series. In 2004, that series becomes one of the biggest-selling albums of the year. His track "World Of Darkness" gains strong dubplate support from DJ Hype, Andy C and BBC Radio 1's Grooverider and becomes one of the notable drum and bass anthems of 2004.

He also releases "Use Your Brain" b/w "Selector", which is described as his biggest track to that point. He continues to develop his sound and says he plans to make an artist album.
