DJ Carlos
DJ Carlos is a Spanish DJ from Spain. He follows in the footsteps of his father and uncle, who were also DJs. As a child, he attends one of their parties at the age of five and decides then that he wants to DJ after seeing the reaction of the crowd.
He starts working in a range of DJ roles while growing up. In 1992, Joel from A Rave Called Sharon finds him at a Latin club where he is working and invites him to play at the next party. From that point, he plays at weekend raves in San Francisco. In 1993, he becomes resident DJ at Recycle on Wednesdays and Universal Groove on Thursdays, while continuing to play Saturday raves and Sunday Spundays.
In 1994, he starts his own party, CDCSoundsystem, with DJ Dutch and DJ Christoff, while still playing weekend raves. He also begins flying to Denver to play at the Come Together Party with DJ Dan, DJ Hippy, DJ Halo, DJ Terry Mullan and others. In 1995, he plays at the Area 51 party series, where Josh Wink headlines one edition, and performs with DJ Tony, DJ Jeno and DJ Astralmatrixx. Around this period he also travels to Seattle, Portland, New York, Cleveland and cities across Ohio, as well as Chicago and the wider Midwest.
In 1996, he starts another party called LOVE with the SF House Collective and plays alongside Dubtribe and many other DJs. He also plays a family reunion in the Midwest and appears in New York at Twilo and with Phato Productions. By 1998, he performs at Nikita with DJ Sasha. By the time the house music scene begins to decline, he has played in almost all 50 states, with Montana and Idaho the exceptions mentioned. After taking three years away from playing, he returns to perform at Fiddler’s Green in Fisherman’s Wharf, San Francisco. He also starts Toltek Productions, focusing on music production and event work.
